As the many multiversal guests are gated in, singly or in groups, a crowd slowly begins to form in the entry hall. Lioncourt looks up from her meditation break and claps her hands twice: in moments, a dozen automaton servants file out from the adjoining rooms, hands of gleaming white porcelain holding equally elegant china tea-sets. A pair of the automatons open the doors at the far end of the hall, revealing a tiered rose garden, the stone benches dotted here and there ringing a large central clearing.

"Tea is served, either here or in the gardens: I would appreciate it, however, if some of my guests might proceed onward so as to reduce crowding."

"Mmm..yes, that's a channel thing. We have two storage systems for selyn, one for the selyn we use personally, and the other is the selyn we usually give to other Simes. The bit that joins them we call the vraimic node. It's possible to shunt selyn between the two systems, for say, emergency survival purposes."

Tyche nods thoughtfully. "How much of that additional nervous tissue would you expect non-channel Simes to have?"

"Significantly less, I don't know if you could tell, but a channel's secondary storage is much larger then their primary, and a channel's primary system is larger then an ordinary Sime's system."

"Interesting. Do you know why your primary system is larger?"

"Mmmm...we don't understand it fully, and what we do understand is rather...technical." She shrugs apologetically and spreads hands and tentacles in a "what can you do" gesture.

"Hmm." Tyche seems to be out of questions for the moment, though she looked tempted to ask about the technical explanation.

"So, anything else you want to talk about, or shall we let you get back to whatever you were doing?"

"I should probably explain the fabber, but that will be easier when I can demonstrate. Speaking of which--" She looks at the fabber on the table "-- I should ask Lioncourt if she has anything that can be used for feedstock."

"What does 'feedstock' mean?"

"Something the nanofabricator can break down and use to build things. --They're programmed to ignore living tissues and the like, as a safety measure."

"That is a good safety measure. I approve."

Tyche nods. "It is possible to remove it, but that's generally unwise."

" I have absolutely no desire to experiment with tampering with potentially dangerous machines."

"That is sensible," Tyche says.

"So, I'll let you go talk to the hostess, and see you later?"

"Yes," Tyche says, smiling, and goes off to find Lioncourt.

"I heard that you were in need of some form of medical aid?"

She blinks "Oh, well, we were just wondering about treatments for appendicitis, since it's something we are not so good at treating with our own methods."

Lioncourt tilts her head. "I see. I'm afraid I'm not a fully-general solution to appendicitis, but now that I've met you, I'll have some useful information to pass on to Tyche. Apologies for disturbing you unnecessarily."
